An introduction to VoIP

X-Lite, also now known as Bria Solo Free, is a social and communication program developed for Windows operating systems. Designed to help users transition from traditional phone usage to VoIP, it serves as the first step towards the fully-loaded Bria desktop client.

With the promise that users can try before they buy, CounterPath leaves you wanting a SIP softphone on your computer just like what Jitsi offers. This is a completely free service however, it is extremely limited in features so, if you want to experience more of it, you must purchase its subscription plan.

What is the use of X-Lite?

A softphone is a program installed on your computer that allows you to make phone calls over the internet. Traditionally, this was done simply by using a landline, but with the world of technology constantly changing, users have access to even more ways to connect with others. While a landline has many benefits, softphones offer just as many.

For those who are still new to the concept, X-Lite is the stepping stone to a fully immersive softphone VoIP experience. With some of the most popular features and functions of the full Bria desktop client, it offers a taste of what you’ll get if you make the upgrade.

How do you call with X-lite?

Before proceeding with calls, you will need to create an SIP account and configure some settings first. If X-Lite is successfully installed in your system, you must run it and wait for the softphone to display on your screen. Once prompted, you will need to hover your mouse to ‘Account Settings’ and click it to open the SIP Account dialog box.

From there, you have to mark as check theCall’ option. Afterward, go to the ‘User Details’ section and fill up the necessary fields — User ID, Password, Domain. In the 'User ID' and ‘Password’ fields, you must type in your SIP username and password respectively. These details are uniquely and automatically generated every time you create a new extension.

On the other hand, the domain field requires you to enter the IP address or DNS name of your computer. Lastly, remember to check theRegister with domain and receive calls’ option under the Domain Proxy section in order to start receiving calls or call any phone number through this newfangled communication app.

Softphone made easy

While it may not be the software you use in the long run, X-Lite shows users just how easy it is to manage VoIP and make calls from your desktop or laptop computer. In fact, it only gets better. With the full Bria subscription services, users will have a complete softphone interface that offers even more accessibility.

XLite is a free SIP softphone that enables VoIP calling.

XLite is next generation softphone client that enables you to manage your communications easily and efficiently – all from your computer desktop. Replacing or complementing your hard phone, XLite allows you to make VoIP and Video calls over IP, see when your contacts are available, send Instant Messages and transfer files with ease and efficiency.

In order to use X-Lite, you must have a SIP enabled IP PBX or access to an Internet Service Provider.
